Medical Disease and Disorder Information Sites
.
Use one of our 3 favorite medical information "megasites" listed below to quickly locate data on a huge variety of diseases and disorders.  Or, if you wish, use ICYouSee below to help you do your own search!
.
An outstandingly easy to navigate site which lists web sites for hundreds of medical topics. It's easy to navigate, has "type in word search" as well as alphabetic listings of diseases and disorders. It also has few graphics to get in the way. All sources are documented and well described. The only negative we could fine is that their list of toll-free numbers and clearinghouses is a bit short, but who cares. The rest of the site is truly awesome. • NOAH: Health Topics and Resources (*** of 4)
The New York Public Library and the New York Academy of Medicine in cooperation with City University of New York has produced a site which gives quick-read brochures and/or links to questions and answers for about 30 common diseases and disorders. These disorders are allergies, cancer, alcoholism, diabetes, and other common problems. The information is authoritative, authorship and date of writing are specified, and it's easy to navigate. Last checked 4/14/03; originally posted here 5/6/98.
  • OMNI (*** of 4)
    •
This site is unusually easy to use.  Just type in the name of the disorder) and, poof, you get an annotated listing of web sites relate to that disorder.  It's produced under the OMNI project at the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom). Last checked 4/14/03; originally posted here 3/15/00.
Their University library provides a selected list of 25 very useful medical information megasites. Last checked 4/13/03; originally posted here 3/15/00.

Yea, yea, we know.  This isn't a "megasite."  Designed for do-it-yourselfers, this is a comprehensive and clear explanation how to locate web sites on this and any other topic on the Internet.  It includes an extensive listing of search engines, meta-search engines, home companions, etc. etc. Last checked 4/13/03; originally posted here 3/15/00.

Medical Dictionaries / Glossaries
  • On-line Medical Dictionary (*** of 4)
    •
A dictionary with brief definitions (no pictures) of more than 46,000 terms. It's definitely a medical dictionary; some of the definitions are fairly technical, but they contain links to explain complex words. Last checked 4/13/03; originally posted here 5/3/98.
.
Medical and Scientific Journals on-line
  • Medical Journals listed on healthfinder (*** 1/2 of 4)
