When I first made
the move to fiber art, I didn’t realize how much my artistic process would
mirror my life in science. Eventually I found that, at their core,
the two are fundamentally similar. Each requires some precision which
ultimately is tempered by a healthy dose of trial-and-error experimentation
and a good bit of creative problem solving. Furthermore, one of the
things that appealed to me as a scientist was the story, waiting to be
told, behind each discovery. The same holds true for me as a fiber
artist: there’s always a story, waiting to be told, behind the fabric
and stitching.
