SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Alopecia Support Group  (1746, 832)
      A place for people with, as well as the families of, people with any form of alopecia (hair loss) based on an immune system deficiency.  These include, in part, alopecia areata, alopecia totalia, and alopecia universalis.  As of the time of this posting, they meet at the Steele Creek YMCA on one Sunday every other month from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information , contact a leader of the group at 704/451-4471 any day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Click for overview of Alopecia and related issues resources

Trichotillomania Support Group of the Carolinas  (1747, 832)
      This friendly group provides a safe and non-judgmental opportunity to share ideas, strategies, difficulties, and successes.  The group is comprised of those with hairpulling, skin picking, and any other related behavior of all ages, along with their parents, friends, and/or other support people.  The group believes that supporting each other is a vital step towards recovery.  They meet on the third Saturday of the month at the Fort Mill Public Library, 1818 Second Baxter Crossing, Fort Mill, SC.  They encourage you to click here to visit their message board on Yahoo to confirm face-to-face meeting information, as well as to provide loving support to one another in lieu of in-person meetings and to stay up-to-date on events.

SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
