SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
The Metrolina AIDS Project   (16/1654/1708, 782)
      In addition to the wide variety of direct services, MAP provides a series of support groups.  These change from time to time, so we include this listing to encourage you to contact them even if you don't see the service you see and need listed here.  As of the date of this update, the following groups were going on with the following contact numbers:

      La Jornada Positiva -- Spanish speaking ongoing group -- 704/602-2421 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm
      S.O.U.L. Ties -- for anyone over age 18 who is HIV+/AIDS -- 704/602-2419 Mon-Fri 8am-5pm

      Transportation and meals are sometimes available.  All groups emphasize sharing and healing.  For details about MAP in general, call 704/333-1435 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  (Click for overview of AIDS resources

SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
Metrolina AIDS Project  (16, 782)
      The friendly people at MAP provide a wide range of services (case management, support, prevention, education, psychotherapy, and financial assistance) for people infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.  For details, call them at 704/333-1435 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
