The Health Department of Mecklenburg County - STD services
The Mecklenburg County Health Department provides a wide variety of free STD related services.  Here is an explanation of the what they offer and suggestions on how to obtain the services.

Option 1
(Overall STD care)

For a free appointment with a health professional followed by free appropriate STD testing.

Hours are as of August 26, 2010.

At these clinics you will be seen by a health professional and have free, appropriate STD testing.  To make your appointment, call 704/336-6500.  This appointment line opens at 7:45 a.m. each weekday morning.  Appointments are made for the day you call as well as for the following day.  They are generally full by about 9:00 a.m.  Don't be discouraged by a busy signal; just call back and get in queue and wait for one of the friendly appointment people.  Their automated system will tell you what number you are in line so you figure out whether or not you will have to wait and for about how long. They work quickly; the last time I called I was number 20 in line and waited only 5 minutes.

If you have symptoms with what you suspect to be caused by a sexually transmitted disease, you can call for an appointment, or, if you prefer, simply go to one of the clinics below at the opening time for that day (e.g., Monday at 7:45 am, etc.) to allow them to set up a time for you to be seen that day if at all possible.  As with most organizations, Monday is the busiest day.  Here are the locations and hours for appointments of the clinics:
