SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Young Widows and Widowers Support Group (up to age 55 or so)  at St. Gabriel   (1469, 758/709)
      An informal group intended for folks in their 20's, 30's, 40's, and young 50's which concentrates on issues common to that age group.  Meeting are open to all denominations; call Sister Marie (at St. Matthew) at 704/543-7677 weekdays from 9-4 to learn more. Morning Glories of Calvary Church  (age 70+)   (1551, 758)
      An informal group for older widows providing support, programs, and nifty fun activities in a Christian setting.  For details call a leader of the group at 704/846-3781 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Click for overview of Widows / Widowers resources)

Healing Hearts - St. Gabriel     (1419, 758/709)
      A group which gives people an opportunity to understand and work through the grief of the loss of a spouse.  Meetings are open to all denominations; to learn more, call Sister Marie (at St. Matthew) at 704/543-7677 Monday through Friday from 9-4. Men's Bereavement Group   (1772, 758)
      A safe, comfortable, and friendly place for men who have had a significant loss.  Most of the members have lost a spouse, but they welcome men with any loss.  They create a place away from the real world where men will find other men who have travelled the same path and who understand.  For details, call the leader of the group at 704/243-6132 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  (Click for overview of Widows / Widowers resources)

      A warm supportive group providing a place to get together for anyone who has lost a spouse. SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
