Bereavement Support Group (cancer-related) (Novant Health).  This group not only has mutual emotional support, but also help for people to identify where they are in the grief process and learn tools to cope. They meet every Wednesday at 7pm. Please note that there is another group with the same name but is for those who have lost someone to any cause. Healing Hearts - St. Matthew.  Warm supportive informal groups providing a place to get together for anyone who has lost a spouse. The predominat age of members is 60s and 70s. The group is open to all denominations. HUGS (Healing and Understanding of Grief from Suicide).  Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 7pm-9pm, this group provides healing, understanding, group support, and education for people who have lost a family member or friend to suicide. Before attending your first meeting, please call to register with the leader and confirm meeting time and location. Call Alice, a group leader, at 704-541-9011 any day 9am-6pm.
Men's Bereavement Group (widowers) at St. Matthew.  A safe, comfortable and friendly place for men who have had a significant loss. Most of the members have lost a spouse, they welcome men with any loss. They create a place away from the real world where men will find others who have travelled the same path and who understand. They meet weekly at St. Matthew in the evening. Soul Widows Support Group (The Respite).  This free group is for young widows, age 60 or younger, who have experienced the loss of their spouse or significant other. They provide an intimate space for a group of women to share their grief through speaking and listening to each others stories. The meetings allow each widow the chance to be heard, and to feel supported in a safe and supportive environment. There are fees for this sponsoring organizations other classes and groups relating to any type of bereavement and loss. Young Widows and Widowers Group [under 55] at St. Gabriel.  A gathering of men and women who have lost spouses. This meeting is especially for people under 55 (or so) and concentrates on issues common to a younger age group. The group meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday in the early evening. Call Sr. Marie, the groups leader, at 704-543-7677 ext 1073 Mon-Wed from 9am-5pm.
