SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
The Job Hunters Group Map(544, 756)
      An active self-help group for individuals who have been laid off, dismissed, or are seriously considering changing jobs.  They have a wide variety of programs, networking, and sharing at their lively weekly meetings.  This group has been sponsored by St. John's Episcopal Church since 1988 (that's more than 500 meetings)!  It has no religious requirements or content.  For more info, call a leader of the group at 704/341-2255 Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.   (Click for overview of Unemployment resources)

Christians in Career Transition   (1555, 756)
      A structured program and support group at St Matthew Catholic Church for those undergoing a change of employment. The content is basically secular covering traditional areas of interest for job-seekers; there is a second optional component available for dealing with more personal issues coming from a Catholic perspective. Ministry at Work     (1495, 756)
      A Christian group for people looking for work.  It includes networking, resumé assistance, interview assistance, social activities, and overall support and prayer.  The group is sponsored by Matthews United Methodist Church.  At the current time the group is meeting only as needed since attendance is quite low, but they have considerable information and support available on an individual basis. United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
