NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness - Charlotte chapter. NAMI is a cluster of support groups and other activities for families of those with a mental illness. The group also provides a free family to family (F2F) training group to discuss and learn about a variety of issues relating to mental illness. Parents of children with bipolar or mood disorders. A friendly, informal organization made up of parents of children (ages 5-18) with mood or bipolar disorder. They share resources, provide mutual emotional support, and have a good time at their monthly weekend meeting. ParentVoice. This program of the Mental Health Association of Central Carolinas provides a variety of services for families with children who have mental health, emotional, or behavioral challenges. This organization has a significantly energetic history with many caring people putting in lots of energy to make sure it works. No formal diagnosis is needed to participate in their free services. They have three free support groups:
- Empowering Parents and Caregivers at Grace United Methodist Church, 730 East Woodlawn Road, Charlotte, every 4th Tuesday 6pm-8pm (call Sheila)
- Grandparents Raising Grandchildren at the Carlton Watkins Center, 3500 Ellington, Charlotte, monthly (call Sheila)
- A.C.T.I.V.E Youth Teen Group at Grace UMC for ages 12 to 21, every 4th Tuesday from 6pm-8pm (call Kevin or Sheila)
