SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Narcotics Anonymous (Charlotte)     (79, 722)
      A 12-step program for recovering drug addicts who gather regularly to help each other stay clean.  You can use the links below to find a complete schedule, or for the Charlotte regional area, you can call 704/366-8980 to speak with their answering service.  They have a schedule of meetings.

Nar-Anon (78, 722)
Dual Recovery Anonymous    (1741, 704/722/735/748/773)
      Based on the 12 steps of AA, this group welcomes anyone with a dual recovery issue (mental illness and drug addiction).  The members help one another achieve dual recovery and prevent relapse. The only requirements are a desire to attain and maintain sobriety and to manage emotional or psychiatric illness constructively.  For details about their weekly meetings, call a leader of the group at 704/945-2210 (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Charlotte's Crystal Clear Group   (1732,722)
      A peer-led 12 step program for people with crystal methamphetamine addiction.  It's a group whose members tend to develop and receive support from each other beyond the meetings.  They use the Big Book of AA and are part of the national Crystal Meth Anonymous program.  As of this writing, they are the only chapter between Atlanta and D.C.  They meet twice a week--Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Road in Room 211.  There will be lots of signs and a friendly greeter outside, but you'll enter through the 2 red doors on the front of the church, walk straight back all the way, turn right and go up 3 steps and the room is on the left  Click here for a Google map to the church.  To confirm the meeting times before attending your first meeting or for other questions, call a group leader at 704/661-5203 anyday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. or click here to send an e-mail with your question.  (Click for overview of Drug Abuse and Addiction resources)

Nurses Support Group      (1389, 704/722)
      A peer-led group for nurses recovering from any type of substance addiction.  They have weekly open sharing meetings which are supportive of the 12 steps. Call a member of the group at 704/968-5174 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for information and directions; do leave a message if you reach her answering machine. Celebrate Recovery (1578, 704/722)
This Christian 12 step program is for people with any addiction.  Preceded by a worship service, the meetings vary in type (e.g., step, discussion, etc.) based on who is at the meeting.  Our list of meetings is definitely not complete for the area since new groups start frequently, but for more info about the week evening meeting at Forest Hill Church, call 704/716-8755 Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  There is a list of other meetings at www.celebraterecovery.org, but it is often inaccurate.   (Click for overview of Drug Abuse and Addiction resources)

Life Hurts, God Heals (1727,722)
      This Christian 8 step program is for teens 13-19 years of age with any nonproductive behavior relating to dealing with an internal pain. It is partially based on the Celebrate Recovery program.  The group addresses issues of addictions, eating disorders, cutting, and divorce as examples.  To learn more, for guys call 704/562-6375 or for gals call 704/421-1882 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to talk with a leader of the group.     (Click for overview of Drug Abuse and Addiction resources)

The Consortium of Professionals Recovery Programs  (xxx.722/704)

United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
