SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Divorce and Separation  Recovery Group (1721, 721)
      This small peer-led group, open to all faiths, helps people deal with the pain of separation and divorce.  They use the book Rebuilding: When Your Relationship Ends written by Bruce Fisher; the book is available from the group or at Amazon.  The group meets weekly on Tuesday evenings at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road at the corner of Colville & Providence.  Be sure to confirm the meeting time before attending your first meeting.  For times and other details, call a member of the group at 704/502-3073 Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or on the weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.   (Click for overview of Separation and Divorce resources)

Encounter/Divorce Care (7, 721)
      A Christian group sponsored by Hickory Grove Baptist Church for people who are separated or divorced.  To learn more about the weekly meetings, call the group's leader at 704/921-2679 Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For details about all the groups at HGBC, click here to visit the church's web site.   (Click for overview of Separation and Divorce resources)


The Women's Commission Domestic Violence Support Groups    (1387, 701/707/721)
      One group is for women who have been in, or are currently in, any type of abusive relationship. There are concurrent groups for these women's children ages 5-18; the groups meet according to the age of the child and are part of the HERO program.  They interview all potential attendees to assist them in choosing the most appropriate resource.  Call 704/336-3210 weekdays 8-5 for details.

zzzPathfinders (1025, 721)
      This group met weekly for 16 years providing information, mutual support, and a good time for separated or divorced individuals.  The group stopped meeting in August, 2007 and may re-start in another form in the future.  We'll announce it here.  (Click for overview of Separation and Divorce resources)

SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
