SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
South Charlotte Juvenile Diabetes Support Group  (1589, 719)
      An informal and fun-loving group for parents and children affected by type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes.  They have meetings every other month in SE Charlotte and other activities. Presbyterian Hospital Diabetes Support Group   (1526, 719)
      This group for adults with diabetes meets twice a month at Presbyterian Hospital on Hawthorne. To learn the details, call the Diabetes Services at 384-7390 weekdays 9-5.  (Click for overview of Diabetes resources)

The Diabetes Support Group of Mooresville     (1312, 719)
      This friendly group for adults with diabetes as well as for parents of children with diabetes meets monthly at noon in Mooresville.  It provides mutual emotional support, continuing educcation (everything from grocery store trips to speakers on new or basic diabetes issues), and sharing of helpful hints (diets, recipes, etc.).  For details, call a leader of the group at 704/660-4859 weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  They are also listed on the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center web site; click here to see that listing.   (Click for overview of Diabetes resources)

Diabetes Support Group of Matthews  (1576, 719)

SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)  (138, all)
      This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
