SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Metrolina Association for the Blind     (1231,710)
The Wing Group     (1778,710)
An informal, spirited group of adults who gather monthly in the afternoon to share emotional support, learn new strategies and skills to cope, and do whatever else members need and want.  For more information, click here to visit their Facebook page, click here to email the leader, or give the leader a call anytime anyday at 704/621-7959.  (Click for overview of Visual Impairment resources)

The VIP Group (Visual Impaired Persons)  at the NC Division of Services for the Blind  (1779,710)
It's a very supportive and welcoming group of friends all of whom have some sort of visual impairment.  They gather for fun and have lots of contact for whatever reason between meetings.  For details about their monthly meeting at the Senior Center, 2225 Tyvola Road, call Jane, a leader of the group, at 704/563-4168 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.   (Click for overview of Visual Impairment resources)

SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
      This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
