SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Arthritis Support Group (1485, 706)
      This educational and mutual support group focuses on helping people with any form of arthritis lead a healthier life.  It meets in the mornings once a month and is co-sponsored by St. Gabriel Catholic Church and Arthritis Patient Services.  For details, call a member of the group at 847-5280 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. or call Arthritis Patient Services at 704/331-4878 Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.  (Click for overview of Arthritis resources)

zzzOther Arthritis Patient Services Groups  (temporarily not meeting) (1054, 706)
APS previously sponsored a group for adults with any form of arthritis as well as a group for people with JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis).  Both are current dormant due to low attendance.  Call APS at 331-4878 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon if you have interest in either of these groups.

SECTION 2: Nonprofit agencies in Mecklenburg County
United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
      This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere else in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
