SECTION 1:  Support groups in Mecklenburg County
Post Adoption Group Encouragement (for Birthmothers) (PAGE) (1751,702)
      This group of birthmothers gather to share emotional support while having fun at their meetings.  The group is for any birthmother regardless of age, type of adoption, or anything else.  For more information, call a leader of the group at 704/995-6435 any day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.  (Click for overview of Adoption resources)

Southern Piedmont Adoptive Families of America (SPAFA)     (54, 702)
      This group has been in Charlotte since 1984 serving as a network of adoptive parents dedicated to sharing their adoption stories and experiences in an effort to increase adoption awareness, acting as an adoption resource, providing educational opportunities, and offering compassionate emotional support throughout the adoption journey.  The group's web site (www.spafa.org) contains an event schedule, adoption resources, and membership information.  A "Members Only" section of the web site contains a discussion forum and current and archived monthly newsletters.  If you do not have full internet access, feel free to call SupportWorks (704/331-9500) on a Monday through Thursday morning for assistance. RADical Healing (Davidson) (1710,743/702)

United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Services)   (138, all)
      This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties of NC.  If you are calling on a landline or residential phone in one of those counties, dial 2-1-1.  If that fails, if you are calling on a cell phone, or if you are calling from anywhere in NC, call 866/744-7778.  For calls from out of NC, use their local number of 704/377-1100. Although they are open 24 hours a day, you may wish to call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for non-emergency questions.
